Have had a couple of interesting days in Perth - think we have finally managed to sort out all the essentials. Also realised that the currency card I purchased to save money is actually costing me more than what Nationwide would have cost - so on to plan B with that one!
Friday we visited Fremantle (Freo, as known to the locals) - as we got to the train station, all the ticket machines were out of order. Asked an attendant where we could buy a ticket and turns out, as they were celebrating the Queens birthday, all travel was free for the day! So that was a bonus!
In Freo we visited the local markets, heading down to the Harbour and saw the Old Round House along with Fremantle Prison (closed a few years back now)
We had fish and chips for lunch - and dinner due to the size of their portions! Headed back late afternoon and relaxed, trying to work out where to head to next.
Saturday morning we heard that the Queen was having a BBQ in Perth - so we ventured down to have a look - there were crowds of 20 deep so we just saw the roof of her car. But we walked up a mountain of a hill to get to Kings Park - a great view of Perth city skyline. We took lunch up with us and relaxed in the sun - coming back a little scarlet. A centipede fell out a tree and straight down the back of my shirt - have never moved quite so quick!
Once darkness fell, we wandered back into the city to see Perths equivalent of Big Ben - the Bell Tower. Its all lit up at night and looks pretty awesome. Sat down by the river and just enjoyed what was going on around us.
Dinner was a bit of a failure - chicken had gone off as the fridges in the hostel aren't all that good! So we ended up with rice and veg - much to Beckys disgust hehe!! But we're reattempting it tonight!
Various people seem to be coming and going from our dorm - we were sharing with some French girls at the beginning, now we have some Ozzy girls and some Scottish fella (called Scot!) However, the two Scots snore like troopers - even in Unison. It's proving hard work getting a good nights sleep but hopefully that will change tomorrow as we're picking up our camper!
Doing a roadtrip of the South West, after seeing Beckys friend Christine. Will be heading down to Bunbury, on to Margaret River, down to Augusta, across to Pemberton, Denmark, Albany and on to Esperance. Should be able to get up to Haydon and back to Perth - fingers crossed!
Have to be back by Wednesday 9th Nov as heading to Adelaide on the train - it's going to be a 50 hrs journey! In a reclining chair - Ouch!
We're boarding the train at 11:55 but need to be there an hour before - but dropping the camper off at 9am, I need to be at the bank to pick up my new card for 9.30am and then gotta get the other side of Perth - should be a fun day!
That is all for now....until next time
Si and Bex x
